I was born and brought up in the village of Dinas Powys in the Vale of Glamorgan. An unremarkable childhood was followed by a degree at the University of Wales where I completed a degree in Education leading to a long and fulfilling career in Primary education. Throughout this time I was committed to sport and fitness. My interest in keep fit may be traced back to a time when I donned the leg warmers to keep my Mum company at a Jane Fonda aerobics class! A look not to be repeated too often!
Following from the birth of my daughter, on the Isle of Man, I became interested in the Pilates method of exercise. Having taken time off to retrain in Educational Psychology I began to develop the concept of using my teaching skills combined with my passion for activity into a new career. Now I host classes in Pilates and am just about to open my home studio in order for clients to work solo or in duets on Pilates and Personal Training.
I have achieved my Diploma in Pilates at Level 3, with Future Fit Training and Active IQ. This is the highest award to be gained for Pilates instructors. I have recently qualified with Future Fit Training, at Level 3, Ante/postnatal Fitness Instructor, specialising in Pilates and at Level 3 Assessing Orthopedic Conditions. I have recemtly qualified to deliver Pilates exercises specifically to clients with neurological conditions such as MS, ALS, Parkinsons, Stroke and other brain trauma's.
I have now completed my training in the Psycho-Calisthenics method of exercise, also known as PCals. This is a series of 23 exercises performed in 14 minutes! I have recently qualified with Later Life Training as a leader in Chair Based Exercises for older, frailer and disabled adults. I am now taking regular classes and we are achieving amazing results, singing happy tunes and enjoying a relaxed fitness environment, with a nice cuppa as a reward! This class was featured on Manx Radio! I am now also qualified as a Zumba instructor! I attended a great day of training in London and was fortunate enough to qualify as a Zumba Gold Instructor enabling me to deliver this dance style of exercise to active older adults. Keep moving! Thank you to the Isle of Man Public Health Department for supporting me in this venture.
I have just qualified as a PureStretch instructor. This Level 2 qualification offers the client the chance to stretch all muscle groups, using small props in class setting. Feel the body lenghten and listen to the muscle respnse as they become more flexibile, free from tension and stress.
I believe exercise should be fun and enjoyable, never a chore, and a tool to assit and improve our daily lives!
